Energy transitions tailored to each country’s circumstances

Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) concept aims for energy transitions tailored to each country's circumstances, together with Asian countries that are actively trying toward carbon neutrality while having similar challenges to Japan in decarbonization.

AZEC is a platform consisting of Asian countries that are promoting decarbonization. By making maximum use of Japan's resources and experience, by providing "support" of finance, technology and human resources and by policy coordination with partner countries.

Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) Senior Official Meeting 2023

Jakarta, 24 June 2023: The Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) of Japan with the support of Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) held the first Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) Senior Official Meeting (ASOM) in Mulia Hotel Jakarta, Indonesia. The meeting was attended by ASOM members from Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Lao PDR, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam, as well as representatives from international organizations such as the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and ERIA, private companies such as PETRONAS Malaysia and research and development agency NEDO Indonesia.

Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) Ministerial Meeting 2023

On March 4 (Sat.), 2023, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) held the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) Ministerial Meeting (AMM) to create and accelerate concrete cooperation as part of the AZEC concept. Mr. Nishimura Yasutoshi, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Mr. Nakatani Shinichi, State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Mr. Satomi Ryuji, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, held meetings with ministers of various countries and others who were visiting Japan on this occasion and exchanged views including on cooperation toward decarbonization.
